Chess Club
Practice chess in Bryant’s very own club with a chance to play in regional tournaments
Registration Closed
Bryant Chess Club is a large, active club run by parent volunteers and taught by hired professional chess coaches. It is open to Bryant students Kindergarten-5th grade of all skill levels to meet, play and learn more about chess. Students are encouraged to play at regional tournaments, including the Bryant Fall Classic which will be hosted at Bryant on the first Saturday of December. Registration includes a Bryant Chess Club t-shirt.
Studies have shown a strong correlation between learning to play chess and academic performance. A landmark study by Smith and Cage (2000) posited that students who received chess instruction scored significantly higher on all measures of academic achievement, including math, spatial analysis, and non-verbal reasoning ability (p. 19-26). Other findings in various locations around the United States and Canada indicate that chess results in improved scores on standardized tests in both math and reading.
This year the Chess Club registration and class sessions will be synchronous with other ASE classes. Students will need to register at the beginning of each Fall, Winter, and Spring term.
